Abbeyside & Ring, Waterford

Marriage Index 1828-1829

The following table of Abbeyside & Ring marriages is transcribed from Microfilm No. 2469 held online by the National Library of Ireland accessible through their Roman Catholic Parish Register Search page.  This is an index of the names of the people who were married in the Roman Catholic parish of Abbeyside & Ring, during the years 1828 to 1829.  This section of the register is in Latin.  This means that generaly speaking first names are given in Latin, surnames are in English.  All names given here are as I read them.  When registers are in Latin many times we see names spelled incorrectly.  I do have a page online which gives Latin names in English so you may consider looking at that if you have any problems here.

My list is sorted by the surname of the groom.  Question marks indicate letters or words I had a problem reading.  The letters ‘sic’ indicate that is how I read the letters I have typed.
[ ] indicates that the letters within the brackets are my best guess at what the letters might be
n.g. means the name or placename was not given
Place names are given in this section of the register

Names that I have a question about the first letter of the surname lie at top of this list

Slieverue, Kilkenny & Waterford. Marriages 1835-36

Slieverue, Waterford & Kilkenny

Marriage Index 1835-36

The following table of Slieverue marriages is transcribed from Microfilm No. 5031.   This microfilm is kept online by the National Library of Ireland accessible through their Roman Catholic Parish Register Search page.  This is an index of the names of the people who were married in the Roman Catholic parish of Slieverue during the years 1835 & 1836. This section of the register is in English.  It was very difficult to read.  Slieverue parish includes townlands in both counties Waterford and Kilkenny.

My list is sorted by the surname of the groom.  Question marks indicate letters or words I had a problem reading. Spellings are exactly as I read them, no corrections have been made, the letters in brackets ‘sic’ means that whatever spelling I have given it is as I read it. Square brackets [ ] hold letters that I am guessing at.

Place names are generally given in this section of the register.  In some cases separate places were named for the man I am not including those placenames.

St. Mary’s Collegiate, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford

St. Mary’s Collegiate,
Dungarvan,
Co. Waterford,
Ireland.

Lewis Topographical Dictionary of Ireland (1837) tells us “DUNGARVAN, a sea-port, borough, market and post-town, and a parish, in the barony of DECIES-WITHOUT-DRUM, county of WATERFORD, and province of MUNSTER, 22 miles (S. W. by W.) from Waterford, and 97 ¾ miles (S. W. by S.) from Dublin, on the road from Waterford to Cork; containing 12,450 inhabitants, of which number, 8386 are in the town and borough. This place, formerly called Achad-Garvan, ….”

It is bleieved that this church was founded by Declan circa 450A.D.

These photographs were taken July 2014 when on a visit to St. Mary’s as part of the University College Cork, ACS Irish Genealogy Summer School 2014.

I had my camera set incorrectly for the first few photographs here, hence the brownish colour.

If you want to read something about the 2014 Summer school please see my post  Gravestones & a bit.  Irish Genealogy Summer School 2014

Roman Catholic Parishes Diocese of Cashel and Emly, Co. Waterford, 1846

This pages differs from my 1836 R.C. parish listing in a number of ways. I have not tried to list the counties that the closest post town is found in and I have not tried to compare this listing either with the 1836 listing or the 1931 listing.

I have however, included extra information on the Diocese as found in the 1846 Roman Catholic Directory on convents and nunneries or academies if mentioned – or, as it is put in the directory – \’The State of Religion\’

Parishes for which records exist and the county or counties they cover or may cover

Baptism Records, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, 1838

National Library of Ireland film number 2469. Index to all names found these records for 1838 and miscellaneous 1872-77. This register is in Latin. For 1838, the child’s name, parents names and Sponsors(Godparent’s) names are given, but no address (townland). The names of most children baptised in 1838 were taken. Mother’s, Fathers, and Sponsors were noted for Foley, Fitzgerald and some other surames over all years. For the most part the register is reasonably legible except at the bottom of the pages. Some entries (or parts of) from this section of any page may be missing from this index. A townland or address is given in most instances in the 1870 registrations.
