This parish belongs in the Barony of Cullenagh. It is divided into two separate parts. The first, is surrounded by the civil parishes of Rosconnell, Durrow, Killermogh, Aghaboe, Clonenagh & Clonagheen, Ballyroan and Fossy or Timahoe. The secondborders on parishes of Co. Kilkenny and the civil parish of Timahoe. It belongs to the Poor Law Union of Abbeyleix, which is also the civil registration district of Abbeyleix for purposes of acquiring copies of birth, marriage or death information from the Irish Civil Registers.
