Parish of Bordwell
This parish belongs in the Barony of Clarmallagh. It is surrounded by the civil parishes of Aghaboe, Kilermogh, Donaghmore, Coolkerry, Rathdowney and Kildellig. It's townlands are divided between the Poor Law Unions of Abbeyleix and Donaghmore, and those of the Donaghmore Union will have been assigned to either Roscrea or Abbeyleix when DOnaghmore was dissolved in 1887. The Poor Law Unions are also the civil registration districts for purposes of acquiring copies of birth, marriage or death information from the Irish Civil Registers.
