CARGAN, or CARRIGIN, a parish, in the barony of CLARE, county of GALWAY, and province of CONNAUGHT, 3¼ miles (S. W.) from Headford, on the eastern shore of Lough Corrib ; containing 1214 inhabitants.
It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Tuam, and is part of the union of Headford : the tithes amount to £103 10s. 7d.
In the Roman Catholic divisions also it forms part of the union or district of Headford. (or Kilkilvery)
At Ballyconlaght there is a daily pay school of 60 boys and 14 girls.
