KILCOONEY, a parish, in the barony of CLARE, county of GALWAY, and province of CONNAUGHT, 4 miles (E. S. E.) from Headford, on Lough Corrib ; containing 1281 inhabitants.
It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Tuam, forming part of the union of Headford : the tithes amount to £198. 10s. 7¾d.
About 45 children are educated in a private school. St. Columb is said to have founded an abbey here.
