I was on
my way home one night when it dawned on me that maybe I should take a
few photographs of Ballacolla. It was late enough and the light fading
so these are perhaps not the best shots of the village itself and I can
replace them in time but for the moment they're ok. Ballacolla is a village
on a cross-roads going from Abbeyleix to Rathdowney or from Durrow to
Roscrea. It's pretty with a few shops and a few pubs, a police station
the old graveyard beside the Catohlic Church and the new graveyard is
called St. Fintans and just on the edge of the village on the Rathdowney
road. I've included one photo of the RC church which is not good because
of the way the light reflects over the graveyard - also a Ballacolla cow
because I was taking a shot of the stepping stones into the field beside
the graveyard! I;d never known that there was a thatched cottage in Ballacolla
before the night that I stopped to take these photos and I've driven along
that Durrow road many's a time. Just goes to show the kind of things which
you can see regularly and not notice because you aren't interested!
