Donaghmore
is one of those 'one street' villages - a few houses on the main road
and a few off it. That being said, it's a pretty place and it was the
location for film, the name of which I don't know! (About10 to 15 years
ago). Donaghmore is on the road from Rathdowney to Borris in Ossory and
from there to Roscrea. There is a Church of Ireland church with a graveyard
above the village on the edge of the green. It was renovated recently,
the scaffolding can be seen in one of the photos below, the other photo
is an old one. Donaghmore used to have a mill, there is a stream running
'through' the village. There is a building across the stream from the
mill which seems to have been a church (?Methodist), though I can find
no mention of the presence of a Methodist church in literature. The workhouse
for the area was just outside the village itself.
When I was
young the 'Workhouse' was the local Creamery, nowadays they have renovated
part of it and converted it into the Workhouse Museum. Donaghmore once
had two pubs, there seems to be only one now.
