Aghaboe Aghaboe is a reasonably large civil parish and the village of Aghaboe was once of great importance in that it was the see of St. Canice the patron Saint of the Diocese of Ossory. It lies at the base of the Slieve Bloom mountains and borders on County Offaly (aka King's county). Aghaboe has no principal town as such today, though the remains of the Monastery still exist. The villages of Borris in Ossory, Clough (Park townland), Ballacolla, Donaghmore are found in Aghaboe and the parish spreads over to the town of Rathdowney Because this is a large parish, it an be quite difficult to identify the Roman Catholic parish registers applicable to Aghaboe. The Roman Catholic parish of Aghaboe did not take in all the townlands of the civil parish of Aghaboe. Records for people who lived in Aghaboe are to be found amongst those of the Roman Catholic Parish of Borris in Ossory.
