DUNDONNELL, a parish, in the barony of LOWER CONNELLO, county of LIMERICK, and province of MUNSTER, 1 mile (W.) from Rathkeale, on the river Deel, containing 476 inhabitants. It comprises 1239 statute acres, chiefly in tillage. The land is in general good, being based on a substratum of limestone. The system of agriculture has of late been much improved.
Riddlestown, the ancient mansion of Gerald Blennerhasset, Esq., is seated on the banks of the Deel : and in its vicinity is Clonarla, the residence of J. Fitzgerald Massey, Esq.
It is a rectory, in the diocese of Limerick, and since 1712, has formed part of the union of Rathkeale, and the corps of the chancellorship of the cathedral of St. Mary, in the gift of the Bishop. The tithes amount to £92. 6. 1 1/2 and there are 4 acres of glebe.
In the Roman Catholic divisions it forms part of the union or district of Coolcappa. There are some remains of the old church; but of the castle of Clonarla, which was taken down some years since, on clearing the site for Mr. Massey's present mansion, a few fragments only remain
