Parish records do not all contain the same information - some list only the names of those directly involved in the event - some list the townlands or addresses of these people - some marriage records will list the names of the parents of those being married and the towland that they came from - while, then there are parish records that list only the names of the people inivolved in the event giving no indcation as to where they lived.

Where anything is known as to the state of the film - i.e. whether the script is eay to read, the ink faded, the entries clearly defined, then this information is listd on these pages - it will be added to as time goes by. Some indication is also give as to the information contained on the film, however, this can only be taken to refer to the time frame that the extracts cover as different Priests changed the format of their entries.

Please note, that while it may be very exciting to discover that records exist for the parish you are interested in, continuously from the mid-1700's to 1880 - do not place too much emphasis on that fact, records that are so old tend to be in bad condition, sometimes so faded as to be illegible. Unfortunately, the same, unfortunately can also be said for some records that were created in the mid-1800's.

This film contains a wide assortment of items apparently from a private collection  at PRONI, all very interesting and valuable to anyone searching in Limerick.  The Parish Records Item to which I refer is the 2nd item on the list, and I feel quite certain would not be found on a regular search for Church Records.

The number of pages in this item on Ballybricken & Bohermore Parishes totals about 175, with each page containing, on the average, about 25 entries, for a total of well over 4000 names not counting the names of sponsors.  From 1802 on the name of the parish is entered with each entry, and later on there are additional comments such as "illegitimate",  "gratis", or the amount of fee paid is shown.  It is completely typewritten and easy to read.

Note from this film:
This is from the parish register for Newcastle West.  The other parishes mentioned are Ardagh and Monigea.

August 17th 1833.  The eight following townlands - Rathina, Kinskea (han) Cullinagh, Shanagarry, Ballinavallig, Ballynacasy, Gurteenaveen and Killane were taken from the parish of Monigea and annexed to the Parish of Newcastle
by the Right Rev Doctor Ryan RC Bishop of Limerick.

In the year 1839, the Right Rev. Dr. Ryan R.C. Bishop of Limerick took the townlands of Gorttboy east, Clouneesk, Kahane and part of Dromine Deel according to the River Dare from the parish of Grai?? or Knockaderry and
annexed them to the parish of Newcastle.

In the year 1841, the Right Rev. Dr. Ryan took the townland of Killoughteen from the parish of Ardagh and annexed it to Newcastle and took the townland of Glenstar from Newcastle and annexed it to the parish of Ardagh.

June 15th 1845.  The Right Rev. Dr. Ryan ordered the townlands of Ardnacrohy and Tierneen (or meen) in the parish of Monegea to be annexed to the parish of Newcastle.
