BALSOON, a parish, in the barony of LOWER DEECE, county of MEATH, and province of LEINSTER, 4½ miles (E. by N.) from Trim; containing 311 inhabitants.
This parish is situated on the river Boyne, and on the road from Athboy, by Bective Bridge, to Dunshaughlin. The land is principally under tillage; the soil is fertile, and the system of agriculture is improved. Fairs are held at Bective Bridge, near the boundary of the parish.
It is a rectory, in the diocese of Meath, and is part of the union of Assey: the tithes amount to £69.4s. 7½d.
In the Roman Catholic divisions it forms part of the union or district of Dunsany and Kilmessan, at which latter place is the chapel for this part of the union.
