KILLEA, a parish, in the barony of GAULTIER, county of WATERFORD, and province of MUNSTER; containing, with the sea-port and post-town of Dunmore, 2490 inhabitants.

This parish comprises 2950 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act ; and near its southern extremity is the fishing village of Portala.

It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Waterford, episcopally united, in 1815, to that of Rathmoylan, and in the patronage of the Crown ; the rectory is impropriete in J. Kearney, Esq. The tithes amount to £270, of which 147. 13s. 10d., is payable to the impropriator, and the remainder to the vicar ; and the entire tithes of the benefice amount to £217 13s. 10d. The church was built in 1817, by aid of a gift of £900 from the late Board of First Fruits. The glebe of the union comprises 6a. 27p., and consists of a small plot in each parish.

In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the union or district of Passage, and contains a chapel.

About 120 children are educated in two public schools ; and about 20 in a private school; there is also, a Sunday school.
