Civil Registration Districts, Co. Westmeath, Ireland

Civil Registration Districts of County Westmeath

The following are the civil registration districts which cover Co. Westmeath. Some cover only Westmeath, while others take in parts of the surrounding counties or are districts whose main town is in another county and which covers only part of Co. Westmeath.

The centre for any registration district was a town in a county and the area taken in by the Poor Law Union related to that town. That area covered approximately a 10 mile radius about the town, this is why registration districts can take in parts of counties the town is not located in, and why some people who are interested in their ancestors from the other county or counties, rarely think to check out information from districts they consider not to be part of the county they are interested in.
