Baptisms: Jan 29th 1871-Dec 30th 1881
Marriages: Jan 29th 1871-Dec 30th 1881

Notes: All in Latin. Script is bad, books are in poor condition before filming. Ink faded. Very difficult to read!
Bride and Grooms names; where they lived, their fathers names (in most cases); the date, priests name; witnesses and where the witnesses lived.
Each entry takes two pages, straight line across – about 18 pages of entries in all.
While the baptisms are supposed to have begun in 1871, I thought I saw a date of 1869

Roman Catholic Parishes Diocese of Clogher, Co. Tyrone, 1846

This pages differs from my 1836 R.C. parish listing in a number of ways. I have not tried to list the counties that the closest post town is found in and I have not tried to compare this listing either with the 1836 listing or the 1931 listing.

I have however, included extra information on the Diocese as found in the 1846 Roman Catholic Directory on convents and nunneries or academies if mentioned – or, as it is put in the directory – ‘The State of Religion’

Diocese of Clogher:
This Diocese covers county Monaghan, nearly the whole of Fermanagh, and a large portion of Tyrone, also parts of Louth, Donegal and Cavan. There were 36 parishes in this Diocese in 1836, 38 in 1846 and 40 in 1931.

The State of Religion:
Is rapidly progressing. The Grand Dioscescan Seminary is now nearly completed. It is hoped that early in spring the entire will be ready for admission of students. The chief portion of the expenses attending this great establishment has been defrayed by the contribution of the clergy of the diocese, making about four thousand pounds.

The active and learned bishop during the past year has visited nearly every parish in the diocese and administered the sacrament of confirmation to about 23,000 persons.

Total: 1 Bishop; Parish Priests 36: Curates 60; Chapels 78; 1 Academy.
