Dromard & Skreen, Marriage Index 1848-51

This is an index of the names of the people who were married in the Roman Catholic parish of Dromard and Skreen during the  years 1848-51.   The following table of marriages is transcribed from Microfilm No. 4229 held online by the National Library of Ireland accessible through their Roman Catholic Parish Register Search page.   All names and surnames given here are as I read them.  This section of the register has some first names in Latin and some in English.

If any of you have a problem with the Latin names, then I have a document online which may be of some help.

Latin Names in English

My list is sorted by the surname of the groom.  Question marks indicate letters or words I had a problem reading.  The letters ‘sic’ indicate that is how I read the letters I have typed.
[ ] indicates that the letters within the brackets are my best guess at what the letters might be. In some instances when the Priest gave a shortened version of the first name in Latin he super scripted the last letter.  Sometimes he gave an a as that letter and other times an e

Townlands are given for both the man and woman in most instances.  In some cases no townland is given for the man when he was employed by the Revenue Police.

Castlemore (Kilcoleman), Mayo. Marriages 1830-31

Castlemore (Kilcoleman, Ballaghderreen), Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon

Castlemore (Kilcoleman, Ballaghderreen) Marriage Index 1830-31

The following table of Castlemore (Kilcoleman, Ballaghderreen) marriages is transcribed from Microfilm No. 4226 held online by the National Library of Ireland accessible through their Roman Catholic Parish Register Search page.  This parish is spread over townlands in counties Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.

This is an index of the names of the people who were married in this Roman Catholic parish during the years 1830 and 1831. This section of the register is in Latin.  This means that first names are given in Latin surname are in English.  All names given here are as I read them.  Even though I am saying that this section of the register is in Latin there are names which the Priest still gives in English such as Michael and Thomas.  When registers are in Latin many times we see names spelled incorrectly.  I do have a page online which gives Latin names in English so you may consider looking at that if you have any problems here.

Placenames are not given in this section of the register

Link to the section of this parish register that I worked with  This is the first time I have tried to put a direct link to the section of the register on any page.  I hope that it works.

My list is sorted by the surname of the child.  Question marks and dots indicate letters or words I had a problem reading, the more question marks the bigger a reading problem I had!

Roman Catholic Parishes Diocese of Achonry, 1846

All spellings are as on original document. There are possibly some errors such as Wm. Quirke being listed as a curate in two parishes

This pages differs from my 1836 R.C. parish listing in a number of ways. I have not tried to list the counties that the closest post town is found in and I have not tried to compare this listing either with the 1836 listing or the 1931 listing.

I have however, included extra information on the Diocese as found in the 1846 Roman Catholic Directory on convents and nunneries or academies if mentioned – or, as it is put in the directory – \’The State of Religion\’

This convent is in a most flourishing state, and its prospects are most cheering. It is now a year and a half since the foundation stone was laid, and its numbers are now over a dozen religious, not second to those of any other convent in zeal and efficiency. The number of poor children in the magnificent school is 700; and the truly good and holy sisters are indefatigable in their attendance on the destitute sick.

In addition to the religious and education establishments of this diocese, mentioned in a preceding number of the Registry, we are gratified at being enabled to state, that a seminary for the instruction of Catholic youth was founded in the course of the last year, under the patronage of the Bishop, the Right Rev. Doctor Murphy, and under the superintendence of the Rev. Michael O\’Sullivan. The building erected for this object, possesses superior accommodation for educational purposes, being the noble edifice which had been formerly the Mansion House of this city. Such as establishment had been for a long time a \’desideratum\’ in a city, where notwithstanding the exellent provision made for the education of the poor of both sexes by the members of the Presentation Order and Christian Schools and for females of the middle and upper classes by the Ursuline community and the Sisters of Mercy, there was no institution of a religious character for the training and instruction of boys in the same rank of life.

Total for Diocese: Bishop: 1; Parish Priests: 33 ; Curates: 46; Chapels: 84; College or seminaries: 1; Convents: 5; Nunneries: 6; Monasteries: 2.
