Notes:
What do I remember about Broadford…. Nothing much to tell the truth. The Church wasn’t that easy to find in that it’s up a hill but just off the main road to I don’t know where. I drove down one road and past a hitch hiker to whom I signalled that I was turning off the road and then a few minutes later once I realised I was back on the outskirts of Broadford I had to pass him going the other direction. I’d say with my Dublin registration he definitely marked me as a ‘lost tourist’!!
When I did get to the church the rain was coming down nicely, but I decided I’d give it a whirl anyhow and see how many photographs I’d get before the rain got too heavy. There were men about and I got the impression that they were in to organise a burial or else part of the graveyard committee. This graveyard has a planning application notice on the gate noting that an application has been submitted to the County Council for permission to extend the cemetery beyond its current limit.
There are lots of McNamaras buried here – that much I did notice. All in all I pretty much covered the whole of the right hand side of the graveyard, I only got some photographs of stones on the left hand side because at that point the rain was coming down in buckets! I’m fairly sure that most of the Macs were on that left hand side and those I photographed would only have been in the first two rows, probably no more as I didn’t venture off the main path as I scanned the names on the stones.
