STANLEY AND STAKEM SURNAMES from ATHY in Co. Kildare
A few weeks ago I did write the Parish Priest in Ireland for information….I had been told that the parish records for St Michaels RC Church in Athy were in horrible shape at the Dublin Library from someone that went there for me to see if he could find my G-g-grandmothers baptism…he was only able to find 1 baptism of a child of her parents and 2 of another STAKEM family in Athy…so on the chance that the Parish might have copied the records I decided to write them ….today in the mail I got 3 pages of photocopied church records the S from SMYTH to STINES on Baptisms and from SMYTH to STRONG on the 1 page of marriages..evidently someone went through the books and put the names down in order complete with the page that they were on in the original…anyways I found out that my G-g-g-grandmothers maiden name was not Starkey as we thought it was telling us in the film but STANLEY…and STANLEYs have been in Athy since the 1700’s…as we think STAKEM’s might have been as there is a marriage record of a ALICE STEACON bck in 1754 to a DERBY DOWLING…thats the only marriage record of any spelling of STAKEM
they sent for that far back….

This is the family of my G-g-grandmother Maria Stakem…we do not know if she is the Mary br 1832 as in her death info she is age 31 died in 1880 which would make her br abt 1848-49…or if this Mary br 1832
died and when another girl was br she was named Maria instead of Mary There is also a CATHERINE STAKEM missing from these records …she was br abt 1843 and was Godmother to my G-grandmother in Fall River Mass in 1869…also found in the 1870 Mass census for Fall River age 27 living with a Moran family…no other info is known on her..
