Mooncoin is listed as being the name of a Roman Catholic Union of a number of Civil Parishes. This means that the parish records, baptisms and marriages of people from townlands in those civil parishes should be found in the Mooncoin registers.
Note on the front of this parish register:
Parish Register of Rathkyran & Mooncoin
Commencing Feb 10th 1816
Being the year which the Rev. Nicholas Carroll was removed from Ballyragget to that of Rathkyran.
It may be that this was later called the parish register of Carrigeen and Mooncoin as listed in Grenham’s ‘Tracing your Irish Ancestor’s’, however, the first set of baptismal entries cover Rathkyran according to the note on the first page. Grenham gives the wrong film reference for this set of parish registers.
My comment on this film
Children’s names in columns on side of page. Town-land named
Difficult to read the main entries and pages have not been filmed in order. Months are mixed up and some pages have been filmed twice.
